Nyquil Party

December 17, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Last Thursday…

The bday bash at The Vault had a great turn out. Even the old roommates who made an effort to come out and hang. Later on the night, Ko and I got to meet Miri Ben-Ari as well which was amazing. Having seen her performances on youtube, I greatly admired her talent but never expected to meet her in person! I was chilling at a reserved table area when Erik (Universal) came up and yelled in my ear that he wanted to clear out some space for Miri. I was literally hanging out at the same table the whole night and never put two and two together until Ko said her name again and mentioned the hip hop violinist.

She is so fresh.

Goapele and 10 Deep

December 13, 2007 · 1 Comment

I finally got to see Goapele (from the Bay, holla!) perform live for the first time last night at SOBs. Thanks to my man, Alex D., at SOBs for hooking it up! I invited Ko and Randall along for both of them had never heard of Goapele before. It was my opportunity to convert them. On the way to the show, I ran into Kunal (KMP, DJ, Art Director, party thrower, jack of all trades) , DJ Eleven (The Rub DJ crew) and their friend on the way to dinner. They happened to be going to the exact same show and party that night. Shows how small the industry can be.

At SOBs, Matthew Santos came out and headlined for about 40mins. He and his four-piece band, Matthew Santos (lead vocals, guitar); Aviva Jaye (vocals, keys); Robert Tucker (drums); Graham Burris (bass) delivered a good performance despite the subpar sound quality. An artist with a distinct voice, he has been featured with Lupe Fiasco in the song “Superstar” and performed with some well known folk-rock artists. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more of him soon.

I don’t know what it is about SOBs but the sound quality is always screwy. Every show that I have been to has had audio issues. However they do book some really dope artists there so I keep going back.

When Goapele came on stage, I was excited. As she sang, the feeling is almost indescribable. She has this beautiful presence and her voice was simply AMAZING. It kinda gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. I absolutely adore her. She sang all her hits including ”Closer”, “First Love”, “Romantic”, etc and stayed after to do cd and t-shirt signing.

She’s MY first love…

I love dimples.

He was off the hook with his guitar.

Change gonna come.

Closer

Sorry for the low qual videos. I completely forgot to change the settings before recording.

10 Deep Party

Ko and I got there around 11:30pm after the Goapele show. We ran into a friend along the way who told us that he waited in line for an hour and left without going in but being optimists, we got in line anyway. The club mgr happened to recognize party girl Ko so he got us including Kevin and Scott? (i’m so bad with names) in VIP style. That was nice of him.

It was held at Element Lounge, 2 floors and packed with people. Most of the folks were drinking and milling around but nonetheless we did our thing, danced and ran into a few people we knew along the way. Met some new peeps as well.

The rest of the night ended well with dope music and good vibes. We left early in good spirits.

Tonight, round II at The Vault!

10 Deep Holiday Sweat Out

December 12, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Everyone and their mama’s been emailing me about this. Should be a dope party tonight.

The NY Winter has been pretty brutal thus far. Instead of huddling with your chums around that trashcan fire as usual, come join 10.Deep for a last hoo-rah before Baby New Year unloads his diaper.

On Wednesday, December 12th, 10.Deep is joining forces with Fool’s Gold Records to bring you the Sweat-Out, a holiday celebration set to cap off the new year with a bang. DJs A-Trak, Pase Rock, and Nick Catchdubs will be setting the tone with movement-inducing sounds to assure that you will have to wring your shirt out before the night’s over.

Guest hosts Chicago-stylista Kid Sister (peep her new video w/ Kanye: Pro Nails) and the incomparable Kid Cudi will help us sign off on ‘07 with their own brand of sonic stylings.

Joins us and Murko for drinks, gift bags, and debauchery. We promise you an affair to remember, but we’re not sure how much you will recollect by the next morning.

ALEX magazine party

December 4, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Press Release

“Everett Publishing, Inc., announced today the official launch party of Alex: The Magazine ( www.alexthemagazine.com), to be held at the trendy Sutra Lounge, in NYC’s East Village (16 1st Ave. / 1st St.).

“We are very excited to unveil the magazine in time for the Holiday Season,” said Alexander Everett, founder and publisher of ALEX: The Magazine, “and are looking forward to a successful launch party and fundraiser for such an important cause.”

The ALEX: The Magazine launch party will hold a raffle benefiting the Lorenzo Jackson Scholarship Fund (LJF), offering college tuition scholarships for HIV-positive youth. Tickets are $5, with prizes including iPods, digital cameras, spa treatment packages, Puma purses, and other gift packages of makeup and perfumery.

ALEX: The Magazine offers a sexy and stylish, as well as eco-conscious alternative to current standard-fare urban publications, regularly reporting on the latest ecological trends, social issues, entertainment, health, fashion, and events happening in support of holistic and sustainable living, nationally and abroad.

Founder/CEO of Everett Publishing, Inc., and Publisher of ALEX: The Magazine, Alexander Everett is a veteran of the publishing industry. Experienced in vast markets of Chicago and New York, Mr. Everett served as the Senior Account Executive for Hartman Publishing, Video Monitor Services, and most recently as Director of Ads for New York Women’s Newspaper and as Business Development Manager for the award-winning New York Press.”

FUSICOLOGY was invited to attend the ALEX magazine launch last night. The two-floors Sutra lounge was packed with people by the time we arrived to join the festivity. Being an eco-conscious magazine, there was a table offering multi-flavored health drinks called Cell-nique. Surprisingly they actually tasted pretty decent. I got to keep a free giant bottle for trying out their product. Other than that, there were free flowing pink cocktails by Novu in champagne glasses, yummy looking munchies, chocolates and free gift bags filled with biore goods and eco-conscious products at the end of the night.

I had also bought a raffle ticket in hopes to win a new digital camera but no luck there. At least my $5 went to a someone else’s education in the end.
